However, cases of unrelated- cord blood transplants are increasing, where in the stem cell loses its value. The American Academy of Pediatrics, discourages cord blood storage as ‘biological insurance’.

While cod blood is really helpful in determining and treating a lot of problems, the efficacy of its use within family members, is yet to be ascertained. For now, it’s really useful with research. However, for transplantation within the family, it’s hardly used, since the antigens don’t match. Also, it would be impossible to use samples from within family, to treat a problem, when the incidents of hereditary damage could be higher. So, a donor is approached for treating any problem.
